Want to know what makes a woman successful? These 11 habits are just the starting point, but are key to being in a group of the most successful women.
What is your definition of success? For me, it’s having a happy marriage and family, being healthy and continuing to grow as a person. Success may look different for you. But all successful women have a few things in common, and the most successful women have some distinct habits that set them apart from the rest.
I’ve been fortunate enough to surround myself with some very successful women in my life. Executives, business owners, stay at home moms; all are successful because of these 11 habits.
They get up early.
Successful women know the key to a productive day is starting off on the right foot, and that includes getting up early. “The early bird gets the worm” is a well known saying for a reason. Most, not all, of us are more productive in the mornings. Avoid hitting the snooze button and try one of these morning rituals to start your day off right.
They make time for themselves.
Self-care is something a lot of women, especially moms, neglect. But we shouldn’t! Taking time for yourself is so important for our mind, body and spirit. Take time to recharge and shower yourself with care often. Take a day off work and do something for YOU. Get a massage, go for a long walk, read a book or magazine, spend time with a friend and end that day with a nice glass of wine. You’ll be more inspired, happier and ready for the next challenge.
They never stop learning.
You will never know everything. Plain and simple. But you can always take time to learn more. Learning helps you grow as a person and successful women know that knowledge is power. For some it’s attending conferences and workshops, for me it’s reading. These inspirational books have broadened my knowledge and inspired me to want to be better, and to never stop learning.
They set goals.
Goal setting = success. A goal without a plan is just a wish and a dream. Successful women set goals for themselves, put action plans in place and evaluates her success in achieving their goals; then they sets more goals. They write things down.
One thing I learned while working in corporate America: the most successful women write things down. They carry a little notebook with them and make note of important things they need to remember. We are all very busy people with a lot on our plates. Writing important things down will ensure you remember actions that you need to take and don’t accidentally forget something.
They are financially savvy.
Successful women are also well versed in how to manage their finances. They know that you can’t live a champagne life on a beer budget. Being financially smart doesn’t mean you need a six or seven-figure salary to have a good life, but to know how to manage a budget and not spend beyond your means is key.
They make health a priority.
Health is so much more than just exercise and eating well. It’s taking care of your entire well being. Successful women make health a priority.
They surround themselves with the right people.
You are who you associate with. Surround yourself with people who inspire you, are positive and motivating and chances are you will be inspired, positive and motivated. But surround yourself with negative people and people who are lazy, and it’s likely that they will rub off on you as well; and not in a good way.
They focus on one thing at a time.
Multi-tasking isn’t a good thing. Did you know that? We used to think it was; I know I did. The most successful women focus on one thing at a time, not 15 things. They know that results are important and trying to do 5 things at once will usually end up with with
They are a BOSS, but not bossy.
It’s the golden rule. If you want someone to treat you with respect, you need to be willing to give respect. Successful women focus on being a good leader and act in servitude to others.
They make family a priority.
No matter what, at the end of the day a successful woman knows that family is what is most important in life. Jobs come and go, but family is constant. They nurture that relationship and make sure it’s always number one.
